CITY COUNCIL POSITION 2

FRED GRANT FOR LAKE FOREST PARK

It’s time for a new renaissance, one filled with beauty, creativity, fresh ideas, and long-term progress. Let’s bring back honor, civility, and a renewed sense of possibility.

My family’s roots in Washington run deep, my great-great-grandfather was part of the state’s first legislature and even served as the Ambassador to Bolivia. That legacy instilled in me a strong sense of civic duty, and I take great pride in the Grant family name. You can often find my wife, Victoria, and me running the Clan Grant tent at Highland Games across Washington, celebrating the heritage that has shaped us.

From an early age, I embraced leadership and community involvement: serving on student council, earning my Eagle Scout rank, and pursuing passions like documentary filmmaking and martial arts. That drive led me to become a Communications and Marketing professional, where I currently work at Sony Pictures Studios in their LATAM Operations.

Washington is my home, and I dedicate my free time to strengthening our communities: volunteering at farmer’s markets, supporting organizations like Whole Washington, and serving as a delegate for the Democratic State Convention. Now, I’m eager to bring that experience, energy, and commitment to Lake Forest Park.

I’m running for city council because I believe in the power of local government to shape meaningful change. With my expertise in media, operations, and outreach, I will bring fresh ideas and real solutions to our city. I look forward to earning your trust and working alongside you to build a thriving, inclusive future for Lake Forest Park.

Safe and accessible sidewalks are essential. By expanding pedestrian pathways, we can encourage outdoor activity, improve community accessibility, and enhance safety for all residents, especially children and seniors.

A well-managed budget is the foundation of a thriving community. Lake Forest Park must prioritize fiscal responsibility, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and smart investments that serve residents today while securing a sustainable future. I am committed to making every dollar count for the

well-being of our city.

Public safety is a priority, and supporting our police force with the right resources, training, and community collaboration will help ensure a secure and respectful Lake Forest Park.

Speeding in our neighborhoods puts everyone at risk (especially children, pedestrians, and cyclists). As your city councilmember, I will prioritize traffic safety by working with city planners and residents to identify problem areas and ensure that speed bumps, stop signs, and other calming measures are implemented where they’re needed most. Everyone deserves to feel safe walking, biking, and driving through Lake Forest Park

Lake Forest Park residents deserve reliable power. Frequent outages disrupt our lives and highlight the need for modern, resilient infrastructure. As your city councilmember, I will work with Seattle City Light to explore improvements to our electrical grid, advocate for updated lines, and ensure our community’s needs are heard and addressed.

How do you plan on interacting

with the citizens of your city?

BlueCircle.png

I would like to encourage everyone to come to Town Hall and City Council Meetings because they are the most direct way for citizens to interact with their City Council. Secondly, I think our council already does a good job informing the public on city business through mailed and email newsletters. They are also very responsive through direct email. Maintaining a social media presence can also be advantageous and help keep locals informed. All these best practices are essential communications that I will endeavor to carry on with equal regularity.

What should your city/town’s role be in dealing with environmental issues?

BlueCircle.png

There is a Chinese proverb that says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” What we didn’t do in the past affects us now, but what we don’t do now will keep the same cycle continuing. So, I believe we need to always take the high road and pursue clean energy alternatives now, because prices will just keep rising as population grows and becomes even more dense.

What is your record of public service?

BlueCircle.png

To start off, I was a in the scouts growing up and to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout you are required to have a minimum of 100 hours of community service. Now, this would be my first entry into a public service leadership role; however, my wife and I have been volunteering all over King County. We volunteer at not only Lake Forest Park’s Farmer’s Market, but also the one in Auburn, which we collected votes to help it win best in the Pacific Northwest. We have also helped with numerous forest cleanups and plantings including the Georgetown Community Forest at South Seattle College. Recently, I was on the board of the First Annual Gala Planning Committee for Whole Washington where we raised a considerable amount to help get universal healthcare on the ballot in the near future.

How should your city respond to homelessness?

BlueCircle.png

I think every community should put effort into helping others. Although Lake Forest Park may lack space it has made meaningful steps, and I would like to make a shout out to the Rotary Club for their contributions over the years. I also support endeavors like Hopelink and North

Help-Line.

How would you describe your vision for the city?

BlueCircle.png

My goal and vision for Lake Forest Park would be to ensure it operates with a net positive budget so that we can support our staff, basic city operations, and passion projects going forward. We have a severe lack of space and commerce which is causing some growing pains as prices continue to rise. I understand that voters want to preserve Lake Forest Park’s small community mentality, but we also need to ensure it can continue to sustain itself going forward. I would personally like to see more commerce zoned in any vacant plots of land and an increase in events taking place in our Town Center.
